I was recently on a hike in Hawaii. Every step I had to be deliberate and intentional. Or I might have fallen down a ravine and hurt myself pretty bad.
“Flow is being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one.”
-Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Do things that force you to be focused, to be present. Think about the way you feel, where your mind goes. If you struggle with being present. I get it. I'm right there with you. The moment I start to do something that requires ultimate focus, I get in this state, it's euphoric and elevates everything. It elevates my skill set in whatever I am doing.
It is magical once you're able to harness that power, that energy, that has been within you the whole time. Learn how to harness this power at a moment’s notice. Initially you won't be able to all the time, not even most of the time. Once you get more and more acquainted with learning how it feels and the types of activities that bring forth these feelings and the ability to tap into flow. Let it be breathing, exercise, music, or all of the above. It will become easier. Like anything, it takes practice. We didn't learn how to ride a bike on the first try. Be patient. Like any skill, this can be learned. 1% better than yesterday. Small, incremental improvements.
Go out there and experience experiences. Pay attention to what these experiences make you feel. If it forces you to be present and in the moment, do it. Ultimate focus. Ultimate productivity. Ultimate discipline. Exceptional life. This feeling, this power, is one that once you know how to get your mind to call upon it at will, it becomes a superpower.
